Happy December 1st! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. We definitely had a great time with Kentucky family and stuffed ourselves with delicious food. I really do love Thanksgiving. Since adopting Levi, Thanksgiving has taken on a new meaning for me. I am overwhelmed with thankfulness for my son. After experiencing over two years of desperately longing for a child, having Levi during the Holiday Season fills me with happiness. Sorrow has been replaced with such amazing joy.
Jesse Tree: Day 1
I chose to make some minor adjustments to my Jesse Tree and instead of following Advent; my tree has an ornament for each day from December 1st through Christmas Day. Some Jesse Trees follow 28 days of Jesus genealogy, mine differs slightly. I wanted my tree to show how the Old Testament in the Bible is pointing towards Christ coming to save us. So many people think that the Old and New Testaments are not linked together, but I believe the Old Testament is very much linked to the New Testament which tells us the Good News of Christ coming to save us. My Jesse tree has ornaments that represent people, Bible stories and prophecies that lead up to the birth of Jesus Christ which is Christmas day.
I am beyond excited to start this new Christmas tradition, and this is how it will work in our house. Each day we will open the wrapped ornament for that day. (I am wrapping each of the 25 ornaments and placing them underneath our special Jesse Tree.) We will then read a passage of the Bible that tells the story of that ornament. I also will read out of a book called "The Jesus Storybook Bible." It is a children's Bible that tells Bible stories and shows how each story whispers Jesus Christ's name (including the Old Testament stories.) Even though it is a Children's Bible, I believe that everyone should read this book. I love it, and it has made me think of Bible stories I grew up with in a new way. It is beautifully written and adults will equally enjoy it. (I will post a link to buy the book at the end of this post as well as another book that many people use for their Jesse Tree.) After we read the Bible and corresponding story in my children's Bible, we will say a prayer and hang the ornament. At the end of 25 days we will have told the story of Jesus coming from the start of creation to His birth on Christmas day.
I invite you to join me in this journey through the story of Christ's birth. Each day I will post a picture of the ornament, the passage of scripture and a brief synopsis of how that ornament applies to Jesus and Christmas. I look forward to sharing this with you and hope that maybe it will make the days leading up to Christmas special for you as well.
