Day 12 Synopsis: Years pass and a woman named Ruth enters the picture. She actually is not an Israelite but is from a town called Moab. She marries an Israelite man who ends up passing away. After her husband dies, she chooses to stick close by her Mother-In-Law, Naomi. She goes to Naomi's homeland where they live as widows.
In that culture widows would get food by going to fields being harvested and take what was left behind for their own food (called gleaning.) Ruth went to a field that belonged to a relative of Naomi named Boaz. Boaz was a very kind and generous man. (Boaz is actually the son of Rahab who we read about yesterday.) He saw Ruth and noticed her as a hard worker. This turns into a beautiful love story when Ruth and Boaz marry, and he saves her from a life of poverty. Boaz is her redeemer. Ruth and Boaz go on to have children and are the great grandparents to King David. Like Boaz, God shows up as our great redeemer. He sends Christ to be born so that He can save us from our life of sin.
