A Family Profile is an 8-10 page booklet that is given to the birth mother as she is choosing adoptive parents. It is a creative way of telling the birth mother about our family. The profile is critical, as it might be the key factor in which family a birth mother will choose.
Below is a brief outline of what our profile will include:
Page 1: Getting to Know Us As a Couple
Page 2: Our Courtship and Wedding
Page 3: This is where Jarred says nice things about me
Page 4: I talk about Jarred and how wonderful he is
Page 5: Our Extended Family
Page 6: Our Friends
Page 7: Our House and Community
Page 8: Thank You to the Birth Mother
We have had our great friend, Emily, help us with the English/Grammar side of things. Today I sent her our final draft after making her suggested revisions. Once she has given her stamp of approval we will send it onto our other amazing friend, Kim. She will do what she does best and design an incredible book for us (put in pictures and give it a "Wow! I want them" factor.) I cannot say enough how grateful I am for Emily and Kim!
Oddly enough, I have enjoyed working on the profile. I am excited to see what the finished product looks like. It was fun to see what Jarred wrote about me and to see what we look like on paper. My favorite part of the whole thing is the final page, the thank you to the birth mother. It felt good to pour out my heart to the birth mother of our soon-to-be baby. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own desires and feelings that I forget there is another woman who is giving away a precious gift, a piece of her heart. Writing the final page helped put it in perspective and has opened up my eyes to the other side of this wonderful and sometimes painful process called adoption.
